Maybank users who rely on Google Pay can expect a smoother checkout experience very soon. Starting 27 January 2026, Maybank will remove the PIN requirement for Google Pay transactions above RM250, making contactless payments quicker and more convenient.

That said, there’s still a cap to keep things secure. Each Google Pay transaction using a Maybank card is limited to RM2,500. If your purchase goes beyond that amount, you’ll need to switch back to your physical credit or debit card to complete the payment.

For credit card users, Maybank says you can continue making multiple contactless payments via Google Pay as long as they stay within your card’s overall credit limit. Just remember that every individual tap is still capped at RM2,500.

However, debit card users follow slightly different rules, which are:

  • Each Google Pay contactless transaction is capped at RM2,500
  • Your daily spending limit depends on your debit card settings
  • You can lower your Google Pay limit anytime via Maybank2u
  • Adjust the limit under debit purchase settings for added control

For those who are unfamiliar with the feature, Google Pay lets you make contactless payments by tapping your Android phone at supported payment terminals after adding your cards to Google Wallet.

Google Pay officially launched in Malaysia back in November 2022, with Maybank joining the platform in May 2024. In addition to Google Pay, Maybank cards have long supported Samsung Pay since December 2016 and Apple Pay since August 2022.
