Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has praised the Proton e.MAS 7 as the official national vehicle for Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship 2025, calling it a catalyst for advancing the country’s electric vehicle industry, according to Bernama.
With Malaysia hosting the upcoming 46th ASEAN Summit scheduled on 26-28 May 2025, Anwar emphasized that this choice highlights local technological progress and shows confidence in Malaysian talent to lead the future automotive sector.
In a Facebook post, PM Anwar said that the Proton e.MAS 7 is set to serve as a key driver in advancing Malaysia’s electric vehicle (EV) industry, especially in light of the upcoming 46th ASEAN Summit.
He added that this initiative reflects Malaysia’s firm commitment to achieving net-zero carbon emissions in the near future and aligns with the nation’s sustainability goals and green energy transition under the Malaysian MADANI framework.
Since its launch, the Proton e.MAS 7, Malaysia’s first EV, has rapidly become Malaysia’s best-selling EV, leading the EV market for four consecutive months at 2,716 units sold so far.
The e.MAS 7’s success is attributed to its affordability, advanced features, and alignment with Malaysia’s green energy goals. Its popularity underscores the nation’s readiness to embrace electric mobility and the potential for local innovation to drive the future of the automotive industry.He noted that this initiative aligns with Malaysia’s commitment to achieving net-zero carbon emissions as part of the Malaysia MADANI framework focused on sustainability and green energy transition.
“Let us continue to support local innovation and work toward a sustainable, competitive, and high-tech future,” he said in a Facebook post.
