The Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) has issued a firm reminder that red-marked parking bays are strictly reserved for businesses only during specific daytime hours and misusing them outside that window is an offence.

According to MPAJ:

  • Red bays are reserved for traders Monday to Friday, 8:00AM – 6:30PM
  • After 6:30PM, bays are fully open to the public
  • Reserved bays are open throughout the weekend.

However, many businesses persist in the practice of “chop culture” by obstructing parking spaces through the use of cones, chairs, or any other material beyond operating hours.

The warning comes after a recent enforcement operation at Ampang Point, where officers conducted a night raid around 8PM.

Several bay areas were found to be illegally “reserved” even though they were supposed to be available for public use. The obstructing objects were promptly removed by the enforcement officers.

Not all bays are the same

MPAJ also clarified an important distinction:

  • Red bays: Public after 6:30PM & weekends
  • Orange bays: Reserved 24/7 for designated tenants

Residents and motorists who encounter illegally blocked bays can report the issue via:

  • MPAJ’s SISPAA system
  • Toll-free hotline: 1-800-22-8100
