Good news for Malaysian drivers, starting Sept 30, RON95 petrol will be sold at a subsidised rate of RM1.99 per litre under a new initiative called Budi Madani RON95 (BUDI95).

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said around 16 million Malaysians with a valid driving licence will benefit from the move. Income level won’t be taken into account, similar to the recent RM100 SARA aid payout.

How the fuel subsidy works

To enjoy the cheaper fuel, Malaysians just need to verify their MyKad at petrol station counters or pumps.
Alternatively, you can skip the hassle by using the Touch ’n Go or Petronas Setel app, which automatically links your eligibility without flashing your MyKad every time.

Who doesn’t qualify?

Non-citizens and big companies aren’t eligible for the subsidy and will have to pay the full price, which is expected to be around RM2.60 per litre.

Even then, the unsubsidised price is still cheaper compared to many countries like Saudi Arabia (RM2.61), Indonesia (RM3.22), the Philippines (RM4.22), Thailand (RM5.68), and Singapore (RM9.02).
