The long awaited SARA aid is almost available to Malaysians and you can now check if you’re eligible to receive the aid from the government. The criteria for this one-off assistance are simple and inclusive. Any Malaysian citizen aged 18 and above with a valid MyKad automatically qualifies.

There are no income limits or extra conditions attached, meaning the aid covers everyone, from students and young adults to retirees and people across all income levels. Best of all, the process is automatic, so recipients don’t need to apply to receive the funds.

Where would the SARA aid be credited & how to use it

The aid will be credited directly into your MyKad. All you have to do is choose your approved essential items at any participating store. When you’re ready to pay, let the cashier know you’d like to use your SARA credit and present your MyKad.

For first-time users of the MyKasih system, you’ll need to set up a secure 6-digit PIN during your initial transaction. At the counter, the cashier will scan your MyKad with a special card reader to check your balance. You’ll then be asked to create and confirm your new PIN to authorise the payment.

Once the transaction is complete, don’t forget to keep your receipt, it shows both your purchase details and your remaining SARA balance.

What can I buy with the aid?

The government has outlined that SARA credit can be used to buy essential household goods across 14 approved categories. These cover a variety of daily necessities such as rice, bread, noodles, eggs, cooking oil, and flour.

Other eligible items include beverages, canned food, personal care products like soap and toothpaste, as well as over-the-counter medicines. In response to public feedback, the list was later expanded to also cover household cleaning items, such as laundry detergent and dishwashing liquid along with school supplies.
