When it comes to comfort food, few things hit the spot quite like a warm bowl of soup. From rich broths and spicy favourites to noodles, meat and seafood packed into one bowl, every country has its own take on this classic dish.
TasteAtlas has ranked 50 soups from around the world, with Paraguay’s Vori-vori taking the top spot with a rating of 4.7.
Turkey’s Beyran Çorbası came in second with 4.5, followed by Indonesia’s Soto Betawi in third with 4.4.
Japan also made a strong showing, with Yokohama-style Ramen, Ramen and Tonkotsu Ramen all appearing in the top six.
Sarawak Laksa makes the global top 50
Malaysia also made the list, with Sarawak Laksa ranking 31st with a score of 4.3.
Other familiar Asian favourites featured throughout the ranking include Sinigang na Baboy, Tom Kha Gai, Lanzhou Lamian, Phở Bò, Taiwanese Hot Pot, Rawon, Tom Yum and Bún Bò Huế.

With everything from ramen and laksa to pho, goulash and spicy Southeast Asian soups, the list is basically a reminder that there are way more soups out there than your usual chicken soup.
