According to Shell Malaysia Trading Sdn Bhd (SMT), the company is expanding its Shell Westport Fuels Terminal with new import infrastructure, including three additional gasoline and diesel storage tanks.

The Westport terminal is located in Port Klang, one of the region’s key maritime hubs, and has been a core part of Shell’s supply network since 2010.

The expansion will allow the terminal to accommodate full medium-range vessel parcels, improving supply efficiency, operational capacity, and overall fuel distribution reliability.

The expansion comes as Malaysia continues to see rising energy demand and increasing pressure on logistics networks to ensure stable fuel availability nationwide.

Phase-by-phase development Starting in 2026

The expansion will be carried out in phases, with construction scheduled to begin in 2026.

Full readiness of the upgraded terminal is expected by early 2028, marking a multi-year infrastructure push to enhance operational capacity and flexibility.

According to SMT and Shell Timur Sdn Bhd managing director Shairan Huzani Husain, all contracts for the project have been awarded to Malaysian-incorporated companies.

By increasing storage capacity and improving handling efficiency, Shell aims to reduce the risk of supply disruptions during periods of high demand or logistical strain.
