Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has sustained a fracture to his right hip after a fall at his residence and is currently undergoing treatment at the National Heart Institute (IJN).

His press secretary, Sufi Yusoff, said medical examinations confirmed the injury, adding that the 100-year-old statesman is expected to remain hospitalised for the next few weeks for treatment and observation, NST reported.

“Tuan Dr Mahathir is conscious and in stable condition. He is being closely monitored by doctors as a precaution,” he said in a statement.

According to Sufi, Tun Dr Mahathir fell at his home at about 7.30am and was brought to IJN, where he arrived conscious and was admitted at around 9.30am.

He added that further updates would be issued when necessary.
