17yo malaysian girl dies struck by temple beam

A 17-year-old girl has passed away after she was allegedly struck by a 1,000kg beam while helping to clean a temple in Tanjung Sepat, Selangor. The victim has been identified as Guo Yujie (transliteration), a Form 5 student from SMK Tanjong Sepat.

According to Sin Chew, the teenager had been assisting with cleaning duties at the temple, where her family was also present.

A loud crash before discovering her daughter

The temple beam that suddenly fell.

Her mother recalled hearing a loud crash and immediately turned towards the direction of the noise, only to see a heavy beam had fallen onto her daughter who was lying motionless and severely injured. She said there was no time for her daughter to react.

“My beloved daughter was gone just like that,” the teen’s mother said.

Describing her daughter, the grieving mother said she was a well-behaved, cheerful, and responsible child who had been focused on her studies and SPM preparations this year.

Emergency responders were called to the scene, but the girl could not be saved.

Cause of the temple beam falling is unclear

Speaking to China Press, the grieving mother said she did not know what caused the wooden beam to break and collapse.

Describing the incident as a devastating tragedy, she said the family is still struggling to come to terms with the loss.

The temple has since expressed its condolences and stated that it will fully cooperate with authorities in the investigation.
