A 16-year-old student who went to school for an extra class never made it home, with her family later finding her badly injured inside the school hall.

Irene Sofiya Mohd Khairool Faisal, better known as Fiya, had gone to a secondary school in Yong Peng, Johor, on Saturday afternoon for an extra class from 2pm to about 5pm. She had arrived on her motorcycle and parked it inside the school compound.
When Fiya did not return home, two of her friends went to her grandmother Jameyah Rabani’s house in Kampung Parit Selamat to ask whether she had already arrived. Jameyah, 65, told them Fiya had not come home, prompting her, her daughter and Fiya’s friends to return to the school to look for her.
They searched around the school before one of Fiya’s friends suddenly found her in the school hall, covered in blood and suffering from severe injuries believed to have been inflicted with a hard object.
Jameyah rushed to her granddaughter after being alerted. Although Fiya was no longer able to speak, she raised her hand and turned towards her grandmother, who then held her and helped her recite the syahadah.
“I ran to her… it was heartbreaking. Fiya could no longer speak, but she raised her hand and turned to look at me.
“I hugged Fiya and helped her recite the syahadah,” Jameyah said when met at her home.
Fiya later became unresponsive after Jameyah called her name several times. She died at the scene.
Grandparents had raised Fiya since she was 9

Jameyah said she and her husband, Khyar Abas, 69, had raised Fiya since she was nine after her mother died from cancer.
She recalled inviting Fiya to attend a wedding with her that morning, but her granddaughter could not go as she had an online extra class at 11am before attending the afternoon class at school.
“I accept what has happened, but I am deeply saddened. We have lost her. My husband and I raised her from the age of nine after her mother died of cancer,” she said.
Khyar said he never expected that his conversation with Fiya over breakfast that morning would be their last. He and his aunt, who had travelled from Kluang, had been waiting for Fiya to return so they could go out for a meal, but she never came home.
“We lived together, just the three of us. She was never a source of worry and was a diligent student,” he said.
Police have since detained three 16-year-old boys from the same school as Fiya. One of them was brought before the Batu Pahat Magistrate’s Court for a remand application.
Johor Deputy Police Chief DCP Hoo Chuan Huat said investigations were still ongoing as police work to piece together what happened and establish a possible motive. Police have yet to disclose further details surrounding Fiya’s death.
