A 43-year-old man was injured after two unidentified men allegedly fired three shots at him outside a used-car repair workshop in Penang yesterday.
The incident happened at around 1pm near a Chinese cemetery along Sungai Rusa Road, according to a police statement issued today.
Victim runs into cemetery for safety
Central Seberang Perai district police chief Asst Comm Nik Aminuddin said police received a report about the shooting at around 2.05pm.
The victim was reportedly shot in the right palm, suffering a fracture in the attack. After being shot, he ran into the nearby cemetery to hide from the attackers. However, the suspects did not chase after him and fled the area instead.
The two suspects, whose identities remain unknown, were believed to have approached the victim on a motorcycle before opening fire.
The victim has since been taken to hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.
Police investigate attempted murder
Police have visited the scene to collect evidence and are working to identify the suspects and determine the motive behind the shooting.
The case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder.
