5 suspects wearing police vests, 2 were real officers

The first incident took place at about 12.20am on June 27 at a house in Padang Sera, Kodiang.

Police said five suspects wearing police vests and claiming to be officers entered the house, where six foreign nationals were staying. The suspects allegedly ordered the victims to hand over their mobile phones before taking RM1,750 in cash and leaving the scene.

Investigations later found that the group was also believed to be linked to two other robbery cases reported in the Kodiang area.

Five suspects were arrested after local volunteer patrol members noticed their suspicious behaviour and alerted police. Among those arrested were two police officers attached to a station in Perlis, while the remaining three were civilians. One of the suspects was also reported to have previous drug and criminal records.

Robbing refugee family

In a separate case on July 1, a 26-year-old police officer attached to the Kedah police headquarters was arrested over an alleged robbery at a house along Jalan Langgar, Alor Setar. The officer allegedly approached a Rohingya family of six and demanded to see their refugee documents.

Police said the suspect then took a male victim’s mobile phone and removed a pair of gold earrings from the victim’s wife before leaving on a motorcycle.

The suspect was arrested on July 2, with items believed to have been linked to the incident seized. Police also believe he may be connected to another case reported on June 30 at the Derga Jaya police housing area.

Investigations into all the cases are ongoing.
