A stunning view of rain falling over part of Penang Island while sunshine remained visible nearby has caught the attention of thousands online, after a short video of the scene was posted on TikTok.
The 46-second clip was uploaded by Long Empire Hq, who appears to have captured the view while spending time at the coastal area around the R&R Bagan Ajam in Butterworth.
Instead of the usual grey skies that come with a downpour, the scene showed a clear contrast across the horizon. One section of Penang Island appeared to be covered by rain, while another remained brightly lit by the sun.
The rain could reportedly be seen around Padang Kota, creating an almost picture-perfect backdrop as sunlight continued shining over the surrounding area.
A natural light-and-rain show
The unusual-looking scene quickly became a talking point online, with the video surpassing 260,000 views and 14,000 likes, along with more than 270 comments.
Some netizens took the opportunity to share their own photos of unusual weather and dramatic skies they had spotted in different places.
Others were simply amazed by the view, with some describing the moment as a beautiful display of nature.
One commenter even referred to it as “the power of the Almighty.”
Localised rain can sometimes occur while nearby areas remain sunny, especially when showers are limited to a small part of an area. Still, seeing the rain curtain from a sunny viewpoint made this particular moment one that was hard to ignore, and even harder not to film.
