A person whose identity is unknown was caught on CCTV vandalising a public housing lift in Kuala Lumpur by spraying black paint on the buttons.

Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) shared the footage on Facebook yesterday, showing the person wearing a blue outfit with a piece of blue cloth covering their head and part of their face. After entering the lift, the person appeared to spray black paint towards the buttons once the doors closed.
The footage showed black stains around the buttons and on the lift wall.
Vandalism adds to cleaning and repair costs
In its post, DBKL said maintaining a comfortable, safe and well-kept living environment for public housing residents remains a priority. However, damage to shared facilities not only affects the appearance of the residential environment but also creates additional cleaning and repair costs.

The city council said the money spent addressing such vandalism could have been used for other needs, while the damage affects the entire community that relies on these facilities daily.
DBKL urged residents to take responsibility for protecting public property, speak up when they witness inappropriate behaviour, and teach younger generations to respect shared facilities. It added that a pleasant living environment depends not only on the facilities provided but also on residents’ willingness to care for and maintain them.
“Love our home, respect our neighbours, and protect our public facilities.”
