Malaysia’s women’s compound archery team pulled off a major surprise defeating top-ranked India to claim the gold medal at the Asian Cup Leg 2 in Bukit Gombak, Singapore, on Friday (June 20).

The Malaysian trio Fatin Nurfatehah Mat Salleh, Saritha Cham Nong and Ng Sui Kim held their ground in an intense final against India’s Shanmukhi Budde, Tejal Salve and Tanisha Thokal. Both teams were neck and neck, finishing the four ends tied at 232 to 232, forcing the match into a tense shoot-off

During the shoot-off, Malaysia held their nerves, shooting 29 points, while the Indian team fell short with 26, with one of their team members scoring 7 points. This shortcoming subsequently handed Malaysia the win and the top podium finish.

Earlier in the competition, Malaysia enjoyed an easy start in the first round, before a close win against Taiwan scoring 227 to 222 in the quarterfinals. The trio then advanced to the finals by narrowly defeating Bangladesh 224 to 221 in the semifinals.

It was a golden finish for the Malaysian archers, marking a new milestone for the team. Congratulations to the trio and thank you for giving us your best!
