
The Malaysian passport has been ranked third globally in the 2025 Passport Index, a leading global ranking of passport strength.
In a statement shared on its social media page, the Immigration Department said the recognition underscores international confidence and acknowledgment of Malaysia’s travel document, which is known for its advanced security features and global reputation.
“Holders of Malaysian passports enjoy visa-free access to 174 countries worldwide,” the post stated.
According to data from www.passportindex.org, the United Arab Emirates passport holds the top position, followed by Singapore and Spain, which share second place.

Malaysia shares the third spot with 15 other nations – Belgium, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Finland, Luxembourg, Italy, Denmark, Portugal, Switzerland, Greece, Austria, Norway, Ireland, and South Korea.
The report noted that the index is compiled using comprehensive data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and represents the current global state of visa-free travel access.
