A Malaysian couple has captured public attention after choosing an unexpected yet charming venue for their wedding celebration, which is a McDonald’s outlet at Pantai Sentral Park with an outdoor garden space. Their chosen venue not for novelty, but for sentiment and shared memories.
“We wanted something different, something that truly belonged to us and our closest people,” they said.

Speaking to Wah Piang, this creative idea traces back to their dating years, when the bride organized her partner’s 27th birthday at McDonald’s birthday celebration. When it came time to plan their wedding, both wanted something different from the typical banquet-style reception.
Instead of a formal sit-down dinner where guests “eat, yam seng and leave,” they wanted a warm, interactive gathering that would leave a lasted memory. This led them to revisit McDonald’s as a venue and explore its garden area for a casual yet heartfelt celebration.

Mixed reactions from loves one
The couple admitted that breaking tradition came with varied responses:
“Our parents were confused at first, asking us that what do we eat or just eating McDonald’s. They would worried it might look “improper”,”
“However, our friends were excited. Those invited have known us for at least seven years and they were really looking forward to seeing how McDonald’s wedding would look,” they stated.

Turning a unique idea into a celebration
Transforming a McDonald’s outlet with an outdoor mini-garden into a wedding venue required thoughtful planning. The couple worked closely with the suppliers to choose materials and decorations that would withstand an open-air environment.
On the wedding day, heavy rain poured two hours before the event, leaving the space soaked. Fortunately, the skies cleared by 7p.m., allowing the planned programme to proceed. The couple added that preparing the schedule together involved a few intense discussions.

“But we always found a middle point. It was worth it,” they said.
Making memories with their closest people
Among all the highlights, they added that the group photo session was the most memorable moment of the day. Being surrounded by the people who love them the most, all genuinely happy for their union, created a moment they described as wonderful.

To keep the atmosphere lively, they also incorporated three high-energy interactive games. Guests later told them it was a wedding they would never forget, filled with laughter and warm moments.
A wedding party, not a banquet
Compared to a traditional wedding banquet, the couple described their celebration as a “wedding party”, emphasizing a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere.
Guests were treated to familiar McDonald’s favourites on this memorable day including Spicy Chicken McDeluxe, Ayam Goreng McD, French Fries and mini sundae cones provided by the restaurant.
