Zufar, a 17-year-old teenager with learning difficulties (Dyslexia), has been selling watermelon juice with a special pricing concept, in which customers can decide how much they want to pay.

Zufar operates this watermelon juice business with the help of his brother, selling right in front of their house in Taman Air Biru, Pasir Gudang, Johor.

This idea was created by his family to make selling easier for him, as calculating prices and change can be especially challenging due to his limitations.

How customers are reacting

The TikTok video that showcased the unique business went viral quickly, with over 400K of views. Some customers were surprised by the pricing approach, but many people praised the concept and the family’s support of Zufar’s efforts.

According to Zufar’s sister, the business model created wasn’t a means for them to pursue profit, but rather a learning curve and method to help his brother earn a livelihood. When asked about their sales, his sister shared that their sales hit an all time high, reaching approximately 100 cups a day during the fasting season, while their daily sales can go up to 50 cups.

Despite customers paying as low as RM0.10 and RM0.50, they don’t condemn them and accept it with open hearts, selling as many as they can to each customers.

Netizens comments on social media

Reactions online have been largely positive, with many users commending the family for their initiative and encouraging others to be fair in supporting the stall. There have also been comments reminding people not to take advantage of the “pay what you want” idea by contributing too little, especially considering the cost of ingredients.
