A restaurant in Sabah has come under praise after its staff allegedly prevented a drink-spiking incident, potentially saving a female diner from harm. The incident, which was later shared by the restaurant owner on social media has gone viral.
Man allegedly tampered with woman’s drink at counter
According to accounts from the restaurant, a man and a woman were dining together when the man approached the counter under the pretext of checking on her drink.
Staff had already prepared the beverage and placed on the bar counter when the man allegedly picked it up and poured an unknown liquid from a small packet into it before placing it back for serving.
Alert staff step in and quietly replace the drink
The owner said his staff allegedly observed the suspicious behaviour and immediately removed the drink before it was served.
To avoid escalating the situation, the staff discreetly prepared a new drink for the woman without informing the man at that moment.
He added that when the man later realised nothing seemed out of the ordinary, he went back to the counter to confirm whether the correct drink had been served.
Woman informed staff she had only known him for a few days
According to the owner, staff later discreetly took the woman aside near the restroom and informed her about what was alleged to have happened.
Shocked by the revelation, she left the restaurant immediately. She also told the staff that she had only known the man for a short period before the incident.
Online praise for staff’s fast action
The video was widely circulated on the internet, and there were many who commended the staff of the restaurant for their alertness and quick decision-making skills, which had possibly avoided a dangerous situation.
The restaurant owner also used the opportunity to remind the public to remain cautious when meeting new acquaintances and to always be mindful of drink safety in social settings.
