Two retirees from Penang and Perak struck it lucky after winning more than RM15.3 million in Sports Toto jackpot prizes, according to STM Lottery Sdn Bhd.
Grandchildren’s numbers turn into RM11.8 million
One of the winners, a 62-year-old retired salesman from Perak, took home a whopping RM11.8 million after placing a bet using the numbers found on his grandchildren’s birth certificates.
The retiree said he had been betting with Sports Toto for around 30 years, usually spending between RM10 and RM20 each time. This time, however, a simple RM2 bet changed his life.
He admitted he was left speechless when he discovered he had won.
“My grandchildren have brought so much joy and happiness to our family, but I never imagined they would one day change our lives in such an extraordinary way,” he said.
The winner added that he plans to manage the money carefully and use it to support his family and secure a better future for his grandchildren.
Long-time lucky pick player wins RM3.5 million
Meanwhile, a 65-year-old retiree from Penang won RM3.5 million after years of placing RM10 “lucky pick” bets.
He said checking Sports Toto results on the mobile app before going to bed had become part of his daily routine.
When he saw that he had won, he could hardly believe his eyes.
“The first thing I did was wake my wife up and ask her to verify the ticket because I thought I might have been seeing things,” he said.
The couple plans to place the winnings in fixed deposits and use the interest earned to help cover their retirement and daily living expenses.
