Johor police are working with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to identify the individual behind a fake AI-generated video of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim that falsely claimed to announce financial aid for the public.
The investigation began after a police report was filed on February 25, when a complainant came across the misleading video on TikTok.
In a statement shared on the official Facebook page of Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar, the Johor Royal Press Office (RPO) said these videos feature a voice that closely resembles His Majesty’s and falsely claim to offer financial assistance to the public in conjunction with Ramadhan.
Johor police chief Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad said initial findings suggest the TikTok account involved is likely fake and was created specifically to post AI-generated content intended to mislead viewers and damage the reputation of the royal institution.
He noted that authorities have not ruled out the possibility of other accounts using similar methods, including AI technology, to impersonate prominent figures and spread false information. Such tactics are often used to make fake content appear more credible and gain public trust.
Not only the Agong, but other figures have been used to generate AI videos too
A quick check by Wah Piang found several other accounts with AI videos generated using other members of the royal family such as the Crown Prince of Johor Tunku Ismail ibni Sultan Ibrahim, his wife Che’ Puan Mahkota Khaleeda Johor, and political figures such as Tengku Zafrul Aziz.

It also appears as though there are also members of the public commenting on those videos as if they believe the videos are true. However, there is a possibility these are fake comments used to farm engagement on the AI videos.

Individuals found creating or sharing this type of content may face investigation for attempted cheating under Section 420/511 of the Penal Code. They could also be investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for misuse of network facilities.
No financial losses reported so far
So far, authorities have not identified any victims or financial losses linked to the video. Police and MCMC have already taken steps to remove the content.
The public is advised to remain cautious and avoid trusting suspicious information from unofficial social media accounts. They are encouraged to verify announcements through official palace channels or state government sources.
Anyone with information related to the case is urged to contact authorities to assist with the investigation.
