Malaysia’s self-driving technology may be getting closer to becoming part of everyday life, after a driverless bus was recently spotted undergoing testing in Cyberjaya.
The autonomous bus is being developed by eMooVit, a Malaysian autonomous driving technology company.
How does the driverless bus navigate on its own?
Instead of relying on a conventional driver, the system uses a combination of LiDAR, cameras and radar to detect its surroundings, understand the road and navigate on its own.
And there could be a chance for the public to see the technology in action soon.
However, no official date or public trial schedule has been announced yet. But a commenter who claimed to be one of the software engineers involved in developing the autonomous bus system also teased that the public may get a chance to experience the technology in Putrajaya this October.
“I don’t want to say much, just wait for our appearance in October in Putrajaya, insyaAllah everyone can experience our autonomous system,” the commenter said.
For now, the Cyberjaya testing offers a glimpse of what Malaysia’s future public transport could look like, with buses potentially navigating the roads without a driver behind the wheel.
