A man was killed in a shooting at a fast-food restaurant in Banting last night (Jan 4), with the incident believed to have occurred while the victim was dining at the outlet.
The incident reportedly took place at around 10pm.
Police believe the male suspect fled the scene on a motorcycle and remains at large.
According to a video circulating online which has now gone viral, the man was found lying outside the fast-food outlet, with many members of the public gathering at the scene.
Sources said the man collapsed after being shot twice and is believed to have died from severe injuries.
As reported by Guang Ming, is understood that the man had appeared in court last month as a witness in a drug-related case, although this information has not been confirmed by the police.
Police said recent shootings are mainly isolated cases
Despite Malaysia’s strict firearms laws making shootings relatively uncommon, several high-profile cases in recent months have raised public anxiety.
Among them were a shooting at Setia City Mall earlier last year that left a janitor injured, along with suspected gang-related incidents such as the fatal shootings in a Cheras mall, a Brickfields eatery, Klang, and Seremban, as well as a fatal shooting linked to a suspected robbery case in Johor Bahru.
While police have consistently stressed that such cases are isolated and typically targeted, the incidents have nonetheless reignited public debate over safety and organised crime.
