The accident happened at around 1am at the Sultan Ismail–Maju Junction traffic light intersection.

Truck was on its way to pick up detained migrants

Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief ACP Mohamad Zamzuri said the truck was being driven by a 43-year-old man and was travelling from the Immigration Department to an enforcement operation near Jalan Chow Kit.

The truck was reportedly empty at the time and was heading to pick up detained undocumented migrants.

Police said the truck had its warning lights and siren switched on when it allegedly entered the junction against a red light.

Truck crashes into two cars and family

At the same time, a Proton Satria driven by a 50-year-old man could not avoid the truck and collided with it.

The impact caused the truck to lose control before crashing into a family of four who were walking by the roadside.

It also hit another car that was stationary at the junction waiting for the traffic light to turn green. The second car was driven by a 38-year-old man.

Three family members killed

The family suffered the worst casualties in the crash.

The 53-year-old father and his two daughters, aged 25 and 12, died in the accident, while the 55-year-old mother survived but suffered injuries to her head, right hand and both legs. She was taken to hospital for treatment.

All three drivers involved were reportedly uninjured.
