Nur Asyiqin Mohd Dalil, who posted her statement on TikTok under the handle @ekyn.wong, said she regretted her actions and took full responsibility for the incident.

Public apology

In her apology, Nur Asyiqin said her behaviour on June 15 was unplanned and spontaneous, and she did not intend to offend or embarrass anyone.

“I understand and take full responsibility for my actions, which may have offended certain parties,” she said, adding that she respects public criticism and feedback.

She said she accepted all criticism with an open heart and regretted her actions, describing them as excessive.

Nur Asyiqin added that she would be more mindful and sensitive in the future, and hoped the matter could be resolved.

“I promise to use this experience as a lesson to become a more mature and responsible person,” she said.

Initial legal action threat before apology

The interesting part is that before issuing her public apology, Asyiqin had posted an “official statement” on June 17 saying she intended to take legal action against individuals who allegedly made defamatory and false statements about her. She also claimed to have escalated the matter to the authorities and consulted her lawyer, a move that drew further criticism online.

Viral video of tourists mocking locals sparks backlash

The controversy stemmed from a viral video showing Malaysian tourists shouting remarks such as “smelly!” and “didn’t bathe!” while covering their noses in a public area in China.

The clip drew widespread criticism online, including from Chinese social media users, and was also picked up by international media coverage.

Although the original video has since been removed, copies continue to circulate online, keeping the incident in public discussion.
