Police have arrested three men in connection with an assault that took place at a restaurant at Jalan Besar Kepong on May 7 morning, following a viral video showing the incident.

3 men attacks diner with kettle at Kepong Restaurant

The victim who was dining at the restaurant, was allegedly attacked by a man believed to be drunk after the suspect claimed the victim was “staring” at him. Based on CCTV footage, the assault lasted several minutes and involved punches, kicks and objects such as chairs and a kettle being used against the victim.

Initially, the suspect’s two friends appeared to try to stop the attack, but video footage later shows them joining in briefly before attempting to calm the main suspect, allowing the victim to escape.

Police confirms arrest, investigations ongoing

Sentul police chief, Assistant Commissioner Basri Sagoni confirmed the authenticity of the Facebook video and said investigations are ongoing. The main suspect has been remanded until May 14, along with the two others involved.

“The fight started while the suspects and the victim were eating at the same restaurant,” Basri said.

“The incident was believed to have occurred because the suspect thought the victim was staring at him. The suspect who was drunk, became upset and attacked the victim”, reported the Assistant Commissioner.

CCTV footage of the incident has since gone viral online as investigations remain ongoing. Authorities have also urged anyone with information related to the case to come forward.
