The Malaysian government has confirmed that a new and improved version of the MyKad will be introduced starting June 2026, incorporating significant improvements in security to tackle any issues regarding fraud and digital verification.
53 new security features added

According to the National Registration Department (JPN), the upgraded MyKad will come with 53 security elements, more than double the 23 features found in the current version.
Among the new enhancements included are:
- Laser engraving
- Holograms
- Microtext
- Guilloche patterns
- Ultraviolet (UV) security elements
- QR codes for enforcement purposes
- An upgraded chip with enhanced encryption technology
Touch ’n Go feature officially removed
However, National Registration Director-General Datuk Badrul Hisham Alias said that the new-generation MyKad will not include the built-in Touch ’n Go feature.
The move comes as Malaysia increasingly shifts toward standalone digital payment systems such as RFID, e-wallets, and enhanced Touch ’n Go cards. The new MyKad would be used mainly for security and identity purposes.
Rollout begins June 2026
It will be officially launched by the Home Ministry with a confirmation from JPN that they have everything ready for the launch.
Updated versions of MyTentera and MyPoCA are also expected to debut alongside the new MyKad.
The rollout is expected to happen gradually in phases, meaning Malaysians may not need to replace their current MyKad immediately.
