In a time when small acts of kindness feel increasingly rare, a well-known Nasi Kandar stall in Penang has touched hearts after helping an elderly man who could not afford a meal.

Elderly man has no money for food

Nasi Kandar Sulaiman, well known for sharing meaningful encounters with its customers on Facebook, recently posted about a touching moment that unfolded at the stall.

According to the post, the elderly man was leaning on a walking stick and stood quietly at the counter, gazing at the dishes laid out before him. His hesitant expression did not go unnoticed.

Wanting to make sure that the man was well-fed, the stall owner approached him and asked if he would like to eat. The man then replied softly that he was very hungry. Staff members then guided him to a seat and asked what he wanted.

“The uncle requested only plain rice with fish”, said the stall owner.

Instead, the stall served him a more complete meal consisting of rice, fish, an egg, and okra.

An act of kindness, a gentle reminder

The post noted that the man appeared very frail and had great difficulty walking. But thankfully, with the help of generous donations, the elderly man was able to enjoy his meal fully, he shared.

The owner ended the post by urging everyone to cherish life’s simple blessings, being able to eat, to walk on their own, and to move freely, especially after seeing the quiet struggles others carry.

To no surprise, the act of kindness by the stall has garnered widespread attention, earning them praises online. Here’s what some of them said:

“Thank you for being nice.”
