The Madani government has reaffirmed its dedication to enhancing the Rumah Mesra Rakyat (RMR) programme across the country to assist underprivileged Malaysians, especially those from B40 group, in owning their homes.

Political Secretary to the Prime Minister, Chan Ming Kai said the government will continue to back Syarikat Perumahan Negara Berhad (SPNB) in ensuring all Malaysians have access to proper housing, describing it as a basic necessity that should be enjoyed by everyone.

“Many people apply for low-cost housing, but the lengthy process and complicated procedures make it challenging. If the process can be simplified, I believe more people will qualify to own home,” he said during the RMR key handover ceremony held in Kampung Badlishah, Kedah.

Improving living standards through inclusive development

Chan noted that the RMR initiative demonstrates the government’s continuous concern for the people’s welfare and its efforts to improve living conditions through inclusive development.

He also revealed that the current administration, led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, has successfully recovered RM15.5 billion through strong governance and financial management practices. The administration to allocate more resources to housing projects such as RMR to meet growing demand.

Commitment under Malaysia Madani framework

Meanwhile, Datuk Prof Dr Mohd Azmi Mohd Lila, the chairman of SPNB stated as of September 30, 6,927 RMR units had been completed in Kedah, while 74,138 units had been built nationwide.

He added SPNB remains dedicated to prioritizing housing projects under the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT), align with the Malaysia Madani framework, which focuses on improving housing accessibility and public well-being.

One of the beneficiaries, Muhammad Rahimi Jaafar, who is a 27-year-old civil servant, expressed his gratitude after receiving his new home, saying the initiative enable had fulfilled his long-held dream of owning a home.

“I’m truly thankful to the government, SPNB and, KPKT for making this possible,” he said.
