A couple has come forward after their dashcam captured a Proton Gen2 deliberately reversing into their vehicle, in what they believe was a staged accident in Selangor. The incident, which happened near the Petronas station in front of Bukit Tinggi Giant, has since developed into a police case after the driver was found to have no valid license, insurance, or road tax.

Victim of sudden crash also assaulted in Selangor

According to a video shared on Facebook by Luo Yi, the crash took place on September 11 around 1:30 PM, when her boyfriend was waiting at the traffic light. A Proton Gen2 suddenly reversed and struck their car.

Her boyfriend attempted to speak with the driver, but the man refused to cooperate and suddenly assaulted him.

“Right after the accident, my boyfriend tried to take pictures as evidence so we could talk things through, but the man accused us of hitting him instead,” she said. “When my boyfriend argued with him, the man got aggressive and refused to cooperate, so we had to call the police, that was the scene in the second video.”

The driver agreed to pay for the damages

At the police station, the couple discovered that the car did not belong to the driver. After contacting several people, they eventually tracked him down, only to learn that he was driving without insurance, road tax, or a valid license.

The couple agreed to a simple settlement, asking only for the cost of repairs. The driver promised to bring the money the next day, September 12, at 7 PM, even bringing a friend as guarantor. With no other option, the couple agreed to the arrangement after waiting from 5 PM until 1 AM.

Settlement fails as driver doesn’t show up

When the couple arrived early at the police station at 6:30 PM the next day, the driver had not appeared. The guarantor came at 6:40 PM and explained he had already given the man the money. At 7 PM, when contacted by police, he claimed he was still gathering funds. After that, he stopped answering calls entirely. Police have since opened a case, and the driver is now officially wanted.

Police advice to drivers

Following the case, officers also reminded the public what to do in similar situations:

  1. If you have a dashcam, immediately download the footage.
  2. Take clear photos of the vehicle, including its model, plate number, and color.
  3. Take a picture of the driver.

All this evidence should then be brought to the nearest Traffic Police Station when filing a report.

“For me, the accident itself is small, but what’s truly wrong is that after causing trouble, he even had the guts to hit someone,” the victim said.

Authorities are urging the public to report any sightings of the suspect by calling 999 immediately.
