A routine morning turned into an unimaginable tragedy when a single father lost his life in a horrific accident, just one day before his daughter’s birthday. What was meant to be a simple celebration has now become a story that’s breaking hearts across Malaysia.
A dad’s promise to buy his daughter KFC that turns into grief

A heartbreaking tragedy unfolded in Sibu when a 39-year-old motorcyclist (Benet Kawit) lost his life after being run over by a cement mixer at a traffic light intersection along Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce.
He died at the scene, leaving behind two young children, a 12-year-old son and a 10-year-old daughter.
“Heartbreakingly, the accident occurred just a day before his daughter’s birthday. What was meant to be a simple and warm celebration has now become a painful memory the children will carry for life.
“He had promised to buy her KFC meals to celebrate her birthday. But today, that promise can never be fulfilled,” said Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng during his visit to the bereaved family of the late Benet Kawit in Kampung Sentosa.
A small kindness that brought tears
During the visit, Chieng personally brought KFC meals to the children on what should have been the younger girl’s birthday, hoping to bring them a small moment of comfort amid overwhelming grief.

He also presented a financial contribution to the family as a gesture of support.

He also urged stricter enforcement of traffic laws, heavier penalties for offenders, wider use of automated road safety systems, and a thorough investigation into both the driver and the company involved. He stressed that road safety must never be compromised under any circumstances.
