Transport Minister Anthony Loke announced the Cermat Madani initiative, which offers an additional insurance premium discount of up to 10% for eligible drivers. The assessment will be carried out through the MyJPJ application, using driving behaviour and road safety records to identify low-risk motorists.

Cheaper vehicle insurance premium

The new discount will be granted on top of the existing No Claim Discount (NCD), which currently allows motorists to receive up to 55% off their premiums. Combined, eligible drivers could enjoy savings of as much as 65%.

According to Loke, the initiative will also incorporate artificial intelligence (AI) technology to evaluate driving risk levels. Drivers who consistently demonstrate safe driving habits and achieve high assessment scores may benefit from lower insurance premium rates.

He said the programme is intended to encourage greater road discipline by recognising motorists who follow traffic laws, avoid repeated offences and prioritise safety while driving.

The initiative forms part of broader efforts to promote safer roads and a stronger culture of responsible driving in Malaysia. Authorities believe rewarding positive driving behaviour could encourage more motorists to obey speed limits, follow traffic regulations and become more accountable road users.

The Transport Ministry added that it remains committed to improving road safety while supporting a fairer insurance system that better reflects individual driving behaviour and risk levels.
