Afiq Zayany isn’t your average delivery rider because at 36, he’s living in a RM1.4 million villa in Johor Bahru while earning up to RM21,000 a month delivering food, and the best part? He’s got the receipts to prove it.

Previously an insurance agent, Afiq switched to being a full-time Grab rider, since then, he hasn’t looked back. For him, discipline and consistency are key. He sets daily, weekly, and monthly targets, working from 9am to 3pm, completing about 25 orders a day. Unless there’s something personal to handle, he’s on the road every day, rain or shine, because, as he says, why take a day off if you have nothing else to do?

Afiq’s income isn’t just about hustling harder, it’s also about working smarter. Sticking to a strict routine helped him see steady income growth, treating any extra earned above his goals as a bonus. In one week, he pulled in RM4,490, with the potential for more through bonuses if he hits high order counts.

His advice is to work hard and adhere to a strict routine.

He knows the costs involved, spending about RM1,600 a month on his Yamaha XMax bike’s maintenance and loans, plus around RM20 to RM25 daily on fuel. His advice to fellow riders? Get a good bike to save on repairs in the long run.

While riding 250km daily in harsh weather isn’t easy, Afiq believes Grab is a solid stepping stone for those fresh out of studies or in between jobs, offering stable income while allowing flexibility.

Living in Johor Bahru has also improved his mental well-being, giving him more freedom and peace compared to the city’s crowded pace. Small gestures from customers, like snacks and drinks, remind him that despite the challenges, the job has its rewarding moments.

Afiq’s journey proves that with discipline and strategy, even a GrabFood gig can lead to a comfortable lifestyle, villa included.
