A man in Thailand ended up in a prickly predicament after a crash involving his motorcycle, a pickup truck, and a durian fruit left his face covered in puncture wounds.

Thai motorcyclist crashed into a pickup truck carrying durian

According to Thai news outlet Channel 7, the 48-year-old was riding his motorcycle through Buriram province on July 15 when he crashed into the back of a pickup truck. The impact flung him off his bike and he landed face-first on a durian that had been wrapped in a plastic bag.

Identified only as Mr Somchai, the man sustained multiple puncture wounds to his face caused by the sharp spikes of the durian.

Police from Muang Buriram Police Station were alerted around 5pm and arrived to find Mr Somchai slumped beneath a tree, his face visibly injured.

Mr Somchai told police he wasn’t speeding and did not know what he had fallen onto when the accident occurred.

The police unit later found a plastic bag containing a durian in the back of the pickup truck, stained with what appeared to be the motorcyclist’s blood.

The truck driver told Channel 7 that he had picked up the durian on his way home from the city to share with his family – but after the incident, he wasn’t sure if anyone would still want to eat it.
