A shocking traffic accident in Sibu, Sarawak, has once again highlighted the dangers of drug-influenced driving after a white Perodua Kenari driver rammed into several vehicles and a motorcyclist near Jalan Oya on Sunday (Oct 5).

Reckless driving captured on video
According to the police reports, the suspect, who appeared erratic behind the wheels was captured in several viral videos weaving through traffic and colliding with multiple cars before being stopped by the public.
The chaotic scene quickly spread across social media, sparking outrage among netizens over the driver’s reckless behaviour.

Driver tested positive for amphetamine
“I’m not drunk, I just took drugs,” according to one of the videos circulating online.
The man can be heard shouting while being confronted by the public. He appeared visibly unstable and incoherent, struggling to justify his actions. Subsequent police testing confirmed that the suspect tested positive for amphetamine, further validating his statement during the confrontation.

Police investigation underway
Sibu District Police Chief ACP Zulklipi Suhaili confirmed that the arrest and stated that the case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of The Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving. If convicted, the suspect faces up to five years in prison, a fine of up to RM15,000, and suspension of his driving license.
The Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division is also investigating the case under Section 15(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries an additional penalty of up to two years’ imprisonment or a RM5,000 fine, or both.
The driver has been remanded for five days to assist in investigations. Authorities have urged the public not to speculate or circulate unverified information online while the case remains active investigation.
