The Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) has set up Emergency Response Teams (ERT) at 12 strategic points across the country, thus providing timely assistance when there are accidents, breakdowns, or other mishaps. The move comes as traffic volume is expected to hit up to 3.5 million vehicles daily during the festive period.

873 CCTV cameras have been installed nationwide along highways to enhance the surveillance. This will help the traffic control centers monitor the traffic and track any congestion, accident, or even a stalled vehicle.

The collected data will be quickly disseminated to motorists via social media platforms and 277 digital signboards, enabling them to make more informed travel choices and steer clear of congested areas.

Multiple agencies team up for faster response

According to LLM director-general Ir Mohd Hadzmir Yusoff, the ERTs team will work closely with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), Road Transport Department (JPJ) and ambulance teams, to ensure faster on-ground response and improve safety on the roads.

He also mentioned that to further ease congestion, 34 Smart Lanes along PLUS highways will be activated and all non-essential road maintenance works will be temporarily halted during the festive period.

Besides that, around 6,000 personnel will be stationed across highways, rest areas, and toll plazas to ensure operations run smoothly.

EV charging expansion

Additionally, EV car users are not left out, as LLM is also expanding charging facilities along highways.

Yusoff said that there are 144 charging points at rest and service (R&R) areas and lay-bys nationwide currently and they aim to add at least 50 more this year.
