Malaysia is currently experiencing a severe heatwave driven by the El Niño phenomenon and the effects of global warming. A climatology and climate change expert expects this year to record the world’s highest temperatures and to continue until this June.
TNG card warped by this hot weather

In the Threads post, the author claimed that Perak is too hot to the extent where her TNG card bent, had curled edges and rippled surfaces after being exposed to the heat.
Shocked by the condition of the card, she was even more surprised that it continued to function despite being exposed to extreme heat. After sharing her experience online, many users were equally stunned, with some chiming in about how the recent heatwave has affected them.
In the comments, it became clear she wasn’t alone. Other Malaysians posted photos of similar incidents, from warped cards to shrunken slippers, including one badly deformed card reported in Sepang, all pointing to just how intense the heat has been.

Why heat warps the card?
Most TNG cards are PVC-based plastic, which softens significantly around 70–80°C. Cars in the sun can reach high internal temperatures quickly.
When PVC is heated above 100°C, it can start to decompose, releasing hydrogen chloride gas and other harmful compounds. At even higher temperatures or during burning, this process accelerates and can produce toxic fumes.
It can be suggested to use cardholders, storing them in shaded areas, or not leaving them on car dashboards.
