Victim Recognizes Attacker From 2019 Incident

In a Facebook post on 15 May, a victim surnamed Tan said he and his brother were brutally attacked by a group of men while drinking at a bar in Kepong on July 2019.

After seeing a video of the recent assault, Tan claimed he recognized one of the attackers, Wong Weng Luen, as the same man who had assaulted him and his brother years ago.

“The man in the blue shirt and an accomplice beat my third brother so severely that he lost a massive amount of blood and was rushed to the ICU. He fell into a coma and had to be resuscitated. He almost died. My third brother and I didn’t even know them. They attacked him for no reason,” Tan wrote.

Brutal Injuries and Family Trauma

According to Tan, another assailant smashed a beer bottle on his brother’s head before stabbing him in the abdomen, causing injuries that required over 70 stitches. Tan said he was also injured while trying to shield his brother, with severed tendons and more than 10 stitches on his hand.

The 2019 incident left a lasting impact on the family, Tan added, noting that his father had been deeply traumatised:

“In all my life, I had never seen my father shed a tear.”

Tan also alleged that none of the suspects had been arrested in the seven years since the attack, claiming they had triad connections. His post has since gone viral with over 7,100 shares.

The accusation drew the attention of Kepong Member of Parliament Lim Lip Eng, who said he met the siblings over the weekend. The siblings reportedly lodged a new police report regarding the 2019 assault.

Lim added that the family had spent more than RM100,000 on medical treatment related to the incident. He also stated he would consult with Selangor police to request a suspect identification procedure and seek an explanation for the lack of arrests.
