According to Hong Kong daily The Standard, the incident occurred on May 3 at the Maliuyan Waterfall scenic area in Huaying, a popular adventure tourism site known for its high-altitude thrill attractions.

From the circulating video footage, the woman (16 years old) was strapped into a safety harness and slowly hoisted toward the edge of a platform on a mechanical cliff swing system.

Moments before the ride began, it can be heard repeatedly shouting that her safety rope was “not tight enough.” However, staff continued operating the ride despite her concerns.

Almost instantly after her release from the platform, the safety rope broke, resulting in her falling off the cliff. She later passed away while being transported to the hospital.
