A recent post on Facebook has gone viral after a man claimed that his girlfriend secretly sold his car in order to purchase a luxury Chanel handbag.

According to 八卦部门, the man shared that both him and his girlfriend are from Penang. His family owned an old Perodua Myvi, which he considered more than just a vehicle, it was a sentimental keepsake passed down for over a decade. Although the car was no longer in active use, it remained well-maintained as a memory of family history.

Car gone without permission

The man recounted that after returning from a trip, he discovered his Myvi missing. Confronting his girlfriend, he was stunned by her response.

“I sold it! You still have your Saga, and this old Myvi was just sitting around.” she casually replied to the man.

He pointed out that the car wasn’t even registered under her name, making it illegitimate for her to sell.

“Sambung Bayar” arrangement for the Myvi

What made matters worse was that she had not sold the car through proper channels. Instead, she arranged a “sambung bayar” deal, a practice where a car is handed over to someone else who continues the monthly payments without officially transferring ownership. She admitted she chose this method to quickly get cash for the handbag she wanted.

Pressure to keep up with luxury trends

The man later realized the motivation behind her actions. She had recently joined a group of well-off friends, many of whom carried branded bags. She was afraid of looking low class in front of her new found friends, which ultimately made her sell the car for quick cash.

“Do you know how cheapskate I’d look when I go out with them and not have a bag? I’d rather have a bag than keep your old Myvi” , she told him.

However, the money from the car still fell short of the bag’s price, and she allegedly demanded he cover the difference, telling him that if he didn’t help she would lose face in front of her friends, insisting that even if he drove a Saga, she should at least have a Chanel bag.

A “queen” on social media

Eventually, she was seen flaunting her new bag on social media, posting coffee-date photos and styling herself as a “queen” who had worked hard for her rewards. In reality, the man said, the bag was bought with money obtained from his car.

He expressed deep disappointment, questioning the foundation of their relationship.

“At that moment, I really wondered, is this relationship about supporting each other, or is she slowly stripping away everything around me? If she can secretly trade my car for a bag, I don’t dare imagine what she might sell next.”
