Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the one-off RM100 SARA assistance, which has officially come into effect today (Feb 9), has been expanded to allow purchases of frozen food.

China Press reported that he explained that the addition brings the total number of essential goods categories to 15, covering around 140,000 product types available to the public.

Gov allocated RM2.2 billion for the initiative

More than 22 million MyKad holders are eligible to receive the RM100 aid, which will be valid until Dec 31 this year, with the government allocating RM2.2 billion for the initiative.

Anwar made the announcement during the Ministry of National Unity’s monthly meeting today.

He added that the government aims to increase the number of participating small retailers to 10,000 and reduce the programme’s coverage radius from 10km to 7km.

SARA aid covers frozen food such as:

  • Chicken / Quail / Duck
  • Breaded Chicken
  • Burgers
  • Beef
  • Ready-to-Eat Meals
  • Fish / Seafood
  • Vegetarian Frozen Food (such as samosas, spring rolls, and buns)
  • Nuggets / Meatballs
  • Frozen Vegetables
  • Sausages
