Students at Monash University Malaysia have started an online petition calling for optional online examinations following recent bomb threats reported at several campuses, including Monash and Taylor’s University.

Campus safety concerns and student response
According to students involved in the petition, the incident has left some feeling unsettled as final examinations approach. While university management has reportedly assured students that the campus remains safe, some say their concerns about safety and exam arrangements have not been fully addressed beyond those assurances.
The petition, which has gathered around 30 signatures so far, is calling for alternative arrangements such as online examinations. Students involved say the request is not intended to disrupt academic processes, but to provide flexibility for those who feel uncomfortable attending in-person assessments under current circumstances.
University authorities have not publicly announced any changes to examination formats at the time of writing, but have previously maintained that campuses are safe for operations to continue as usual.
Mixed student reactions and ongoing discussions
The situation has sparked mixed reactions among students, with some supporting the call for flexibility, while others have voiced criticism and backlash against the petition, emphasizing trust in the university’s safety assurances and the need to proceed with scheduled in-person exams.

As the examination period approaches, discussions continue among students and faculty regarding safety perceptions, academic continuity, and possible accommodations.
